Sadiq B., 13

Sadiq is a thirteen-year-old cheerful boy from a financially disadvantaged family. His father works as a bricklayer, while his mother is involved in creative arts and petty trading to make ends meet. Sadiq loves playing soccer and dreams of becoming a lawyer when he grows up. Five months ago, he began experiencing pain in his right flank, lower back, and abdomen, along with difficulty in passing urine. He was taken to another facility for treatment, where he was diagnosed with kidney stones. However, due to financial constraints, his family could not afford his medical bills. Sadiq requires urgent surgery to prevent complications such as obstructive uropathy and permanent kidney damage.

Sadiq bukar had a large, persistent kidney stone causing significant pain. The stone could only be removed through a surgical procedure called nephrolithotomy. He was admitted for the surgery on May 7, 2025. The surgery was successful, and he was discharged on May 11, 2025. Both sadiq and the UMD Medical Clinic are pleased with the outcome, as the surgery was successful and sadiq is now pain-free and in good health.

Larger stones might require more extensive treatment like using sound waves to break up the stone (lithotripsy), surgery to remove very large stones, or using a scope passed through the bladder to remove smaller stones. Kidney stones can cause excruciating pain as they move through the urinary tract. If left untreated, the stone may continue to pass or become lodged in a position that causes persistent, severe pain.
