Transparency

is our number one priority.

We believe every donor has the right to know exactly where their money goes.
This has always been, and will continue to be, the core principle of Helpster.

That is why every step of the process, from case submission to hospital payment, is documented and accessible
to anyone in real time through the patient database on our website and in the Helpster mobile app.

How It Works

Verified cases. Direct impact.

We only launch fundraising after a case has passed a full verification process. Only cases involving children and young adults with genuinely life-threatening conditions, where the family has no means to cover treatment, are approved.

  • STEP 1

    Finding children to support

Helpster collaborates with trusted hospitals and non-profit organizations that help identify children in need of medical treatment.

  • STEP 2

    Patient Information Collection

Our partners gather the required documentation: medical records, diagnosis details, photos, and information about the child and their family's financial situation.

  • STEP 3

    Case Verification

Helpster volunteers verify each case on the ground — visiting families in person, talking to hospital staff, and confirming that the diagnosis and the family's financial circumstances are genuine.

  • STEP 4

    Case Review and Approval

Helpster's in-house team of certified doctors reviews the documentation. Only cases meeting our criteria for urgency and financial need are approved for fundraising.

However, when a child cannot wait, our agreements with partner hospitals allow treatment to begin right away.

  • STEP 5

    Fundraising

Approved cases are published on our platform immediately. Donors can contribute to a specific child's case or let the algorithm assign their donation to the most urgent open case.

  • STEP 6

    Treatment Payment

Once the fundraising is complete, Helpster transfers the full amount directly to the treating hospital as payment for the patient's medical bill. Funds never pass through the patient's family.

  • STEP 7

    Monitoring and Support

Our volunteers stay in contact with the hospital and the family throughout treatment, providing ongoing support and making sure the treatment progress and outcome are fully documented in our database.

  • STEP 8

    Donor Updates & accountability

Every donor receives real-time updates on the case they supported — medical records, invoices, payment confirmations, treatment outcome, and messages from the family and doctors once the treatment is complete.

  • Bangladesh Healthcare Initiatives

    Bangladesh Healthcare Initiatives

Bangladesh has 171 million people, yet many families cannot access essential healthcare. Maternal mortality stands at 115 deaths per 100,000 live births, and over 100,000 children under five die annually — many from preventable causes.

  • Nigeria Charity Programme

    Nigeria Charity Programme

Nigeria has a population of over 240 million people, the most populous African country. Yet 40% lack access to vital healthcare, and 70% live below the poverty line. This creates impossible barriers for families in desperate need of medical care.

  • Kenya Aid Projects

    Kenya Aid Projects

Almost 50% of Kenya's population lack access to vital medical care due to financial constraints, limited insurance, and geographic barriers. Over 20 million Kenyans live below the poverty line, unable to access healthcare that could save their lives.

Database

Real-time data accessible to anyone anytime

Every case is carefully documented from the start of fundraising
to the patient's final discharge from the healthcare facility.

We value privacy and respect medical confidentiality, providing full access to all documents
that meet these requirements, such as invoices and treatment reports.

The father does not have a job at the moment, the mother is doing her best in terms of doing a petty trading to provide for the family. They live in a 3 rooms apartment, during raining season, they use buckets to prevent water from dripping down from the roof, the environment is full of grasses and water logged roads. Habiba woke up one and started having headache, making her stay out of school, she vomited twice, the mother gave her paracetamol to take but no improvement in her health. They were informed about Helpster Charity from a family friend, they came to WholeCare Clinic where she was presented with complaint of fever that is associated with joint pains and malaise. Guidelines

Who qualifies for support

We wish we could help everyone — but to make the greatest possible impact, we focus on cases where a relatively small amount of funding makes an immediate, life-changing difference.

We support children and young adults whose medical condition is life-threatening (or where timely treatment can significantly improve their quality of life) — and whose families have no means to cover the cost.

Meet criteria
  • Treatment is either life-saving or life-changing

  • The family passes our Poverty Scoring Poverty ScoringOur local medical managers assess each family's economic situation based on criteria such as income, household size, housing, water and electricity access, sanitation, and vehicle ownership. Only families who score below the poverty threshold qualify for Helpster funding.

  • The case passes our Urgency Scoring Urgency ScoringOur doctors rate each case on life danger, pain level, time sensitivity, and treatment cost. An algorithm then uses these scores to rank cases by urgency. Cases scoring 20+ out of 27 are classified as urgent. 93% of the children we help are facing a life-threatening condition or require immediate hospital care.

  • Costs of one-time treatment is between 30 and 3,000 USD

    Preferably below 500 USD

  • If the cost of treatment is between 30 and 50 USD, then the poverty score is high

  • Estimated treatment cost does not exceed the regional average

Does not meet criteria
  • Cases submitted without Admission Proofs (photos, videos, life story, guardian's contact details, consent, etc.)

  • Cases where the estimated treatment cost exceeds the regional average

  • Conditions that are not life-threatening and do not significantly affect the child's quality of life.

    Examples:

    • Common cold
    • Minor scratches/bruises
    • Minor Sprains and Strains
    • Bacterial Conjunctivitis
    • Cerebral palsy
    • Palliative care
