Nelius is preparing to take her final exams in secondary school this year. She is a cheerful and kind young girl who enjoys singing, dancing, and watching cartoons. Her favorite meal is rice and beef, and she lives with her parents. Nelius has aspirations to study beauty design in college. In 2017, Nelius began experiencing symptoms such as excessive thirst, weakness, headaches, and frequent urination. She was taken to a government dispensary where she was diagnosed with diabetes, treated, and then discharged. However, a month later, her symptoms returned, and she was referred to a higher-level hospital. She was admitted for three weeks. She was also advised to attend weekly diabetic clinics. Due to financial constraints, Nelius has been unable to afford the hospital's diabetic clinics and daily insulin injections, leading her to miss the clinics and skip her daily medication. As a result, she has been struggling with recurring hyperglycemia and has occasionally missed classes due to her illness.

It was on the year 2017 when Nelius started experiencing a feeling of excessive thirst, body weakness, headache and frequency urination. Nelius was rushed to government dispensary where she was diagnosed with high blood pressure levels, she was treated and discharged. One month later, the condition reoccur again and was reffered to county government refferal hospital where she was admitted for three weeks and discharged on insulin mixtard 10 international units twice daily, she was also advised to book for weekly diabetic clinics but due to lack of funds to pay hospital diabetic clinics and buying of daily insulin injections, Nelius wangeci have been struggling on the reoccurrence of hyperglycemia on and off. She also has an history of school missed classes due to this condition, when her mother heard of Helpster Charity from the Helpster volunteer, Mary came to Good Hope Hospital to beg Helpster Charity to help her raise funds to facilitate her daughter's medical drug assistance. Nelius was treated in outpatient and given insulin solutions to continue at home, currently she is happy and excited since she understands her condition and how to inject herself with insulin daily.

Hyperglycemia can lead to serious health complications. One of such complications is diabetic ketoacidosis, characterized by high levels of ketone bodies in the blood. Long-term inadequate treatment of hyperglycemia can damage the heart, kidneys, eyes, and nerves. In extreme cases, uncontrolled hyperglycemia can lead to diabetic coma.
