Ibrahim was diagnosed with Pertussis and Malaria. Pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough, is a highly contagious respiratory infection caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis. It's known for causing severe coughing spells, which can sometimes end in a "whooping" sound when the person breathes in. Severe malaria occurs when infections are complicated by serious organ failures or abnormalities in the patient's blood or metabolism.

Ibrahim is a four-year-old boy from a disadvantaged background, living with his parents in an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp. His family relies heavily on humanitarian assistance from non-governmental organizations for both shelter and food, having lost all their means of livelihood due to the ongoing insurgency by Boko Haram in their community. Ibrahim enjoys eating and playing around the compound with neighboring children. He dreams of becoming a pilot in the future. This morning, Ibrahim was brought in with severe cough attacks accompanied by vomiting, fever, loss of appetite, and diarrhea. The illness began just three days ago, but his condition worsened this morning as he developed breathing difficulties. After examination and investigations, he was diagnosed with pertussis complicated by acute plasmodiasis.

Prognosis
Treatment for pertussis, or whooping cough, primarily involves antibiotics to help control the infection and reduce the spread of the disease. Malaria should be treated promptly with the use of antimalarial drugs. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and even death. It can result in organ failure, severe anemia, neurological issues, and in some cases, prove fatal, making early diagnosis and treatment crucial for preventing these life-threatening consequences.
