Ismail, a lively nine-year-old boy from a financially struggling family, enjoys playing football with his friends. He tends to be introverted and harbors aspirations of becoming a teacher in the future. Until two years after birth, Ismail was in good health. However, he developed a scrotal swelling, which started small but has since increased in size. He experiences intermittent pain in the scrotum along with a sensation of heaviness. Seeking medical attention, Ismail was brought to the UMD Medical Clinic for treatment. Upon evaluation by the doctors, he was diagnosed with hydrocele.

The persistent presence of a hydrocele can cause ongoing discomfort, heaviness, or a feeling of fullness in the scrotum. Although hydroceles are not typically associated with infections, untreated ones may become prone to infections, which can result in pain and complications. Larger hydroceles can interfere with activities like walking or participating in sports due to the added weight and size of the swollen scrotum. Surgical removal of the hydrocele sac is the most effective and permanent treatment for hydrocele. It is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under local or general anesthesia. The surgeon makes a small incision in the scrotum, drains the fluid, and removes the sac.
