Ba Shehu B., 11

Ba Shenu, an eleven-year-old boy full of energy and joy, hails from a humble background. He enjoys riding bicycles and playing tennis with his peers in the neighborhood. His ambition is to pursue a career as an electrician in the future. Until six years after birth, Ba Shenu was in good health. However, he noticed an abnormal swelling in his scrotum and promptly informed his parents. The swelling, initially small, gradually increased in size over time. He experiences mild pain, discomfort while walking, and a sensation of heaviness due to the swelling. Seeking medical attention, he was taken to the UMD Clinic, where he underwent clinical examination and was diagnosed with hydrocele.

The persistent presence of a hydrocele can cause ongoing discomfort, heaviness, or a feeling of fullness in the scrotum. Although hydroceles are not typically associated with infections, untreated ones may become prone to infections, which can result in pain and complications. Larger hydroceles can interfere with activities like walking or participating in sports due to the added weight and size of the swollen scrotum. Surgical removal of the hydrocele sac is the most effective and permanent treatment for hydrocele. It is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under local or general anesthesia. The surgeon makes a small incision in the scrotum, drains the fluid, and removes the sac.
