An inguinal hernia is a condition in which a portion of the intestine or abdominal tissue protrudes through a weakened or torn area in the lower abdominal wall, typically in the groin area. A person with an inguinal hernia typically experiences a noticeable bulge or lump in the groin area. This bulge can be painful or uncomfortable, especially when lifting, coughing, or straining. Some individuals might also feel aching or burning sensations around the hernia. In certain cases, the hernia can lead to symptoms like groin pain, a feeling of heaviness in the lower abdomen, and discomfort.

Background
Musa, a six-year-old boy from a humble background, is the fourth child in a family of six. His father works as a bricklayer, while his mother makes and sells hats to support the family financially. Musa is introverted but enjoys music and watching movies in their neighborhood. He dreams of becoming an entrepreneur in the future. Initially, Musa was in good health until four years after birth when he developed a small, painless scrotal swelling. Over the following months, the swelling grew larger, accompanied by intermittent pain, discomfort, and a feeling of heaviness. His family brought him to UMD clinic to benefit from the Helpster program. After examination and investigation, he was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia. To prevent potential complications such as an obstructed hernia, Musa requires surgery to repair the defect.
Medical history
Musa Yusuf is a 6-year-old boy who was diagnosed with scrotal hernia. He was admitted and prepared for surgery. Surgery was done successfully and there were no complications. The child felt much better and was discharged home with the parents. They were happy and grateful to Helpster for the free surgery.
Prognosis
If left untreated, inguinal hernias can lead to complications such as bowel obstruction, strangulation (where blood supply to the herniated tissue is cut off), and significant pain or discomfort. Surgery is the most common treatment for inguinal hernias to repair the weakened area and prevent these potential complications.
