Adeno-tonsillar hypertrophy refers to the enlargement or swelling of both the adenoids and tonsils. The adenoids are a collection of lymphoid tissue located at the back of the nasal passage, while the tonsils are clusters of lymphoid tissue in the throat. When both the adenoids and tonsils become enlarged, it can result in various health issues, such as difficulty breathing, snoring, sleep apnea, recurrent infections, and other related symptoms.

Background
Mariya is a 14-year-old girl living in a small village with her parents and brother. She is a diligent student in class 8 at her village Madrasa and enjoys playing sports with her friends. Mariya dreams of becoming a doctor to help those in need. Her mother has high hopes for her future but is deeply concerned about Mariya's health. Mariya has a swollen throat, making it difficult for her to eat properly. Despite taking antibiotics, her condition has not improved significantly. Mariya requires a tonsillectomy, but her family cannot afford the procedure.
Medical history
Mariya was suffering from a severe sore throat and swelling due to a diagnosis of adeno-tonsillar hypertrophy, which made it incredibly difficult for her to speak or focus on her studies. Although antibiotics provided some temporary relief, it became clear that she needed an emergency operation to truly heal. With the unwavering support of Helpster Charity Donors and RUDO Hospital, her surgery was successfully completed, and Mariya is now on the road to recovery. Her parents, overwhelmed with emotion, expressed their heartfelt gratitude, saying, "The weight of the world has been lifted from our hearts; our child is safe and sound now. As Mariya prepares to go home with prescribed medication and follow-up care, her family feels a profound sense of hope and relief, knowing their little girl is on the mend.
Prognosis
The patient has swollen tonsils. Despite taking antibiotics to manage the infection, the condition has worsened. The condition is accompanied by pain and fever. Enlarged tonsils can trap bacteria and viruses, leading to recurrent throat and ear infections. These infections can cause discomfort, pain, and may require repeated courses of antibiotics. An adenotonsillectomy is a medical procedure in which both the adenoids and tonsils are surgically removed. The adenoids are small glands located at the back of the throat, while the tonsils are situated on either side of the throat.
