Background
Fatima is a six-year-old girl who lives with her parents. She is friendly and dreams of becoming a lawyer in the future. She was seemingly healthy until two days ago when she developed a fever, cough, and generalized body weakness. Upon presentation at facility, she was examined, and investigations revealed severe malaria with anemia.
Medical history
The child was diagnosed with Severe malaria. Had investigations such as Malaria (MP), PCV, E/U/CR, and Fcb. Admitted and treated with Intravenous antimalaria (IV Artesunate) and IV paracetamol, and due to the Anemia, needs blood. Blood transfusion 220mls of white blood under Laxis cover (10mg) and tablets Antimalaria (ACT). The clinical condition improved, and the child was discharged home feeling much better. Prognosis
Malaria should be treated promptly with the use of antimalarial drugs. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and even death. It can result in organ failure, severe anemia, neurological issues, and in some cases, prove fatal, making early diagnosis and treatment crucial for preventing these life-threatening consequences. If left untreated, anemia can lead to fatigue, weakness, paleness, shortness of breath, and reduced overall quality of life. In severe cases, untreated anaemia can result in complications such as heart problems, impaired cognitive function, and compromised immune response, underscoring the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment to prevent these health issues. Treatments for anemia might involve taking supplements or having medical procedures. Eating a healthy diet might prevent some forms of anemia.
