Zavani is a playful boy who rarely sits still, he is either doing his acrobatics doing cart wheels, running around making car noises or playing football made of polythene paper with the neighbor's kids. When asked what he wanted to become when older, all he gave was a gleeful grin and hid his face on her mother. His mother says, though, that he's obsessed with running everytime, so maybe he'll be an athlete. The night prior to being brought to the hospital, Zavani had been complaining of pain on his throat and barely ate his supper. The following morning, he could not eat breakfast, still citing pain in the throat. He was also having a cough and had a few episodes of vomiting.

Zavani came in with complaints of pain when swallowing, vomiting, and coughing. Malaria tests were done, and the results showed no malaria parasites. On examination, he was found to have swollen tonsils and tender lymph nodes, leading to a diagnosis of acute tonsillitis. He was prescribed antibiotics and malaria treatment as a precaution. We’re happy to report that Zavani has fully recovered and is back to his cheerful, playful self. When our volunteer and a hospital staff member visited, he came hopping towards them with joy.

Enlarged tonsils can trap bacteria and viruses, leading to recurrent throat and ear infections. These infections can cause discomfort, pain, and may require repeated courses of antibiotics. An adenotonsillectomy is a medical procedure in which both the adenoids and tonsils are surgically removed. The adenoids are small glands located at the back of the throat, while the tonsils are situated on either side of the throat.
