Umbilical hernia is a swelling that can be seen at the umbilicus, or the belly button. It occurs when there is a defect and failure to close a part of the abdominal wall at the umbilical region, thus allowing fluid and parts of the intestine to push through the defect. Hernias should be repaired and closed by surgery.

Background
Kalil Moh'd Kabir is an eleven-year-old boy and the child of a peasant farmer. He is a joyful and friendly child who loves to eat and dreams of becoming military personnel someday. Kalil was brought to the health facility with complaints of an umbilical bulge that had been present for more than six months. The bulge was associated with pain around the umbilicus, especially during episodes of obstruction. However, the pain would subside after taking analgesics. Upon presentation at the facility, Kalil was examined, investigated, and diagnosed with an umbilical hernia.
Medical history
Khalil is a 11-year-old boy who was diagnosed with umbilical hernia. He was admitted and prepared for surgery. Surgery was done successfully and there were no complications. The child felt much better and was discharged home with the parents. They were happy and grateful to Helpster for the free surgery.
Prognosis
Without intervention, the hernia may continue to grow in size, causing increased discomfort, pain, and a noticeable bulge at the umbilicus. In severe cases, the protruding tissue can become trapped or strangulated, which is a medical emergency. Strangulation occurs when the blood supply to the herniated tissue is compromised, leading to severe pain, nausea, vomiting, and possible tissue damage or necrosis. Prompt surgical repair is typically recommended for umbilical hernias to prevent these complications and ensure the safety and well-being of the affected individual.
