Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Bokoli Subcounty Hospital

Bokoli Sub-County Hospital, Sikata - Kimilili Rd, Bokoli

Background

Eliah is a 3 y.o. boy, was brought to Bokoli Subcounty Hospital by his mother. He was diagnosed with Anaemia and Protein Energy Malnutrition, that were caused by poor nutrition. Eliah’s family is comprised of ten people, wile only one person works and earns. The family lives beyond the poverty line, and is unable to afford proper nutrition, or medical services.

Medical history

The child was diagnosed with protein energy malnutrition which causes alot of muscle wasting. He was put on supplementary foods and within a few days he looked much better. The child's mother was very elated during discharge; she reported how Eliah had lost his handsome face due to being malnourished and was happy that this was now behind the back. She said she will endeavour to look for affordable protein products so that her child does not get malnourished again.

Prognosis

The patient was diagnosed with Anaemia and Protein Energy Malnutrition. If not treated urgently, the child might deteriorate further in the following days, weakening immune defence systems and becoming more vulnerable to infections.
