Tabitha A., 14

Tabitha would like to be a teacher in future. She is 14yrs old and taking her studies seriously inorder to get a scholarship to see her through her secondary and college education. She likes cooking and likes to assist her mother in the garden, along with doing other household chores. She was brought to the hospital with complains of chest pains, abdominal pains which was worse in the epigastric region, dizziness and headache. She had had the symptoms for 1 week and had taken some medication which did not help much; her condition worsened. The parents depend on meagre jobs in other people's homesteads to earn a living. The area administration chief heard about Tabitha's illness when he was doing the routine visits in the villages and he informed them that an organization known as Helpster Charity was attending to sick needy children and was paying for their medical fees at God's Favour hospital, and that is when they brought the child to the hospital.

After physical examination and laboratory investigations, she was diagnosed with gastritis and acute bronchitis. She was put on medication and progressed well. She was also told about factors and foods that can exacerbate the gastritis and advised to avoid these

Acute bronchitis prognosis is good when treated early with antibiotics. If not treated immediately Tabitha would be at risk of developing sepsis and respiratory problems as the infections can spread quickly
