Hussaina H., 11

Hussaina is 11 years old young girl living in a poor community in northern Nigeria. She is the second of six siblings. She currently attends Islamiyya school, where she learns about her faith and builds a strong moral foundation. She dreams of enrolling in a western education school one day, believing it will open doors to a better future for herself and her family. One evening, Hussaina began to feel unusually weak and developed a high fever. Her condition worsened quickly, with intense headaches, body pains, and constant vomiting. Her family rushed her to a nearby chemist where she was given drugs. The illness left her bedridden for days, unable to eat or carry out chores. On presentation at our hospital, she was evaluated and diagnosed with Severe Malaria and Enteric Fever.

Hussaina was seriously ill with severe malaria and enteric fever, leaving her family worried and overwhelmed. Coming from a family with limited resources, they feared they wouldn’t afford the care she needed. But with urgent medical treatment and the generous support of Helpster charity covering her expenses, Hussaina slowly regained her strength. Her family is deeply thankful. Their daughter’s recovery is a powerful reminder of hope and kindness in the darkest moments.

Severe malaria and enteric fever (typhoid/paratyphoid fever) can have serious consequences, and the prognosis depends on factors like the severity of the infection, age, and promptness of treatment. Early and effective treatment is crucial for improving outcomes in both conditions.
