Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Osogbo Central Hospital

Osogbo central Hospital is located at Oke-Baale, adjacent Nawarudeen Grammar School, along Ibokun Road, Osogbo, Osun State.

Background

The child is a 7-year-old girl who attends Darest Nursery and Primary School. She lives with her mum alongside her two siblings. The parents are separated. She lives in a one-room apartment with her mother and her two siblings. The mother is a petty trader who makes a profit of N10,000 monthly. She bears all the care, and this has been hard on the mother ever since Christiana's health condition deteriorated. She complains that there are no funds to continue treatment, so the child's education is affected. Two weeks ago, Christiana was in the church when her stomach swelled. She was taken to a nearby clinic, where she got some drugs. When this seemed not to relieve or reduce the swelling, natural herbs were introduced by a neighbor. Christianah has been complaining of pain and irritation on one side of her belly. Physical and clinical examinations have been done, but the mother cannot pay for the medical treatment. Diagnosis of Abdominal Colics and Malaria was made, awaiting medical treatment.

Medical history

Ilori Christiana presented with Abdominal colic and malaria with prostration which was very serious in young ones, series of investigations were conducted, and she was placed on some intramuscular injection and oral medications. The mother was advice to always bring her for checkup at outpatient clinic. She has fully recovered. The mother came back to say thank you to Helpster for coming through.

Prognosis

Early medical attention can significantly improve outcomes with excellent prognosis. Children will usually require the administration of antimalarial medications to treat malaria with supportive care such as pain management with fluid and electrolyte replacement.
