Abigael A., 10

Abigael is happy and upbeat; she enjoys playing even when given tasks to complete and always finds a way to make them enjoyable, viewing everything favorably. She enjoys playing football, hide-and-seek, racing with other kids, and doing anything else that makes them happy. According to her mother, she is a hyper girl who dislikes being weak or slow. When Abigael grows up, she wants to coach football. When Abigael's mother asked her if she was okay after she got home from school and saw that she was exhausted, Abigael replied that she was just exhausted from school. Her mother however observed that she did not go out to play as was her norm, and she did not eat her evening meal. She struggled to get ready for school in the morning and left without taking breakfast. At around noon, Abigael's mother was informed that her daughter was quite ill and that she was required at the school to pick her up and take her to the hospital. Abigael's mother rushed to the school and picked her child; she was aware that there was a charity organization known as Helpster that assists sick underprivileged children at Future Life Nursing Home and this is where she rushed Abigael to.

After undergoing several tests, Abigael was diagnosed with severe malaria and was immediately admitted for urgent care. She was started on both intravenous and oral medications to help bring her condition under control. Thankfully, Abigael responded positively to the treatment and showed steady improvement. As her strength returned and symptoms eased, she was discharged with oral medication to continue her recovery at home. Her mother was also counseled on the importance of prevention and advised to ensure that Abigael sleeps under a treated mosquito net every night to protect her from future malaria infections.
