Medical history
Salman, a 5-month-old baby, had been experiencing recurrent respiratory tract infections for the past two months. However, this time he was suffering from severe pneumonia. Despite receiving multiple courses of antibiotics from a government hospital, his condition did not improve. He became lethargic and appeared toxic, necessitating emergency hospitalization. Upon admission, Salman was treated with oxygen therapy and nebulization with sulbutamol and ipratropium bromide. He also received injectable antibiotics and hydrocortisone due to the seriousness of his condition. Fortunately, he has made a full recovery and is now back home with his parents, who are beaming with joy.
Prognosis
The patient was diagnosed with severe pneumonia, a life-threatening condition that required immediate medical intervention. Upon admission, the patient received emergency treatment, including intramuscular antibiotics, steroids, nebulization, and oxygen support. If left untreated, this condition could have led to severe respiratory infections, sepsis, and potentially death.
