Praise G., 1

Praise, an orphaned second twin being cared for at St. Bernard Nyang'oma Children's Home, was brought to the hospital after waking up crying, restless, and unable to feed properly. He was vomiting everything he was given and also had diarrhea. Concerned for his health, the caregiver decided to seek medical attention. On the way to the hospital, Praise experienced multiple episodes of vomiting and diarrhea, making the journey difficult. Despite the challenges, they managed to reach the hospital, where he was promptly attended to by medical staff. Praise and his twin were taken to the orphanage by a mentally challenged elderly woman and some neighbors after their mother passed away at birth. Efforts to trace any relatives of their mother have been unsuccessful so far. The orphanage continues to provide care and support for the twins as they grow.

Praise George was brought to the hospital with complaints of diarrhea and an inability to feed well. The sister in charge of the orphanage brought him to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with gastroenteritis. He was treated as an outpatient and was discharged on orals . A call to the orphanage in charge revealed that Praise was indeed well and was breastfeeding well.

The child was brought to the clinic with history of 2 episodes of diarrhea. On examination, the child was clinically lethargic, dehydrated with sunken eyes and poor skin turgor. Clinically pale, not jaundiced, not cyanosed and afebrile. The child needed immediate hydration therapy and laboratory investigations to be done for prompt decision decision making. If the child is left untreated there are chances of loosing him due to dehydration since the child is loosing electrolytes through passing of loose stool and frequent vomiting. Prompt treatment of gastroenteritis in Praise George will lead to good prognosis with symptoms resolving within few days
