Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Severe malaria is a life-threatening medical emergency that requires immediate attention. Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease that affects humans and Anopheles mosquitoes. Human malaria causes symptoms that typically include fever, fatigue, vomiting, and headaches. In severe cases, it can cause jaundice, seizures, coma, or death. Symptoms usually begin 10 to 15 days after being bitten by an infected Anopheles mosquito.

Background

Fatima is a 3-year-old child who smiles and is always energetic, except when hungry. She likes playing with her peers. He lives with his parent in Abujan Mai Mala internally displaced camp. She was well until 2days before the presentation when she started having a fever, refused to feed, body weakness and reduced energy. Mother administered herbal concoction but, there was no improvement. The parent brought the child for treatment during the Helpster Medical Outreach in their camp. Following a thorough evaluation by the medical team, the patient was referred to hospital for hospitalization. At the hospital, the child was evaluate and diagnosed with severe malaria.

Medical history

Fatima, a 3-year-old girl was admitted in our facility where she was managed as a case of severe malaria complicated by anemia. She had her full course of blood transfusion and IV medications. She responded well to treatment as her presenting symptoms subsided. She was later discharged home on oral medications. Parents expressed their joy for the support rendered by Helpster Charity.

Prognosis

A patient infected with severe malaria requires immediate medical attention, and with prompt treatment, they can expect to make a full recovery. If left untreated, malaria can lead to severe complications, including organ failure, coma, and death. Malaria may have long-term consequences, such as anaemia, neurological damage, and kidney damage but with prompt treatment, it can be averted.
