Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Severe malaria is a life-threatening medical emergency that requires immediate attention. Malaria in early pregnancy when left untreated can cause abortion. Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease that affects humans and Anopheles mosquitoes. Human malaria causes symptoms that typically include fever, fatigue, vomiting, and headaches. In severe cases, it can cause jaundice, seizures, coma, or death. Symptoms usually begin 10 to 15 days after being bitten by an infected Anopheles mosquito.

Background
Amina is a 30-year-old short-tempered pregnant woman, who is caring for children and very friendly. She has a passion for handcraft and dreams of becoming the best artisan in her community. She lives in the IDP camp and barely makes a living. She was well until 4 days before her presentation to the Helpster Medical Outreach when she had a fever, headache, vomiting and body pains. No history of having taken any medication due to financial constraint. After been evaluated during Helpster & Yobe State medical outreach, she was referred to this facility for expert management.
Medical history
Amina presented to our clinic and was diagnosed with Malaria in Pregnancy. She was admitted and treated with intravenous medications and fluids. She responded well as presenting symptoms subsided. After treatment she was discharged home on her oral medications to complete her recovery. She was grateful to Helpster Charity for the free treatment.
Prognosis
A pregnant woman infected with severe malaria requires immediate medical attention to save the pregnancy, and with prompt treatment, she can make a full recovery and have her pregnancy continue. If left untreated, malaria can lead to severe complications, including abortion, organ failure, coma, and death. Malaria may have long-term consequences, such as anaemia, neurological damage, and kidney damage but with prompt treatment, it can be averted.
