Halima A., 19

Halima is a decent girl who has no formal education despite her interest in it, but could not enroll in school due to the poverty of her family. She was married off at 15 years old. She is shy and very respectful and enjoys traditional play and has a dream of becoming a traditional play coach. She was pregnant and well until 4 days before presentation when she stated having dizziness, easy fatiguability, blurred vision, rapid heartbeat, swelling in the legs and feet. No history of bleeding per vaginum or from any orifice of the body. She is not known to have sickle cell disease. Since the onset of the illness, she has not taken any medication until they heard about the Helpster program and now presented to the hospital to seek care under the Helpster. She is diagnosed with Anemic Heart Failure with Pregnancy and needs urgent medical care.

Halima was admitted in our facility where she was managed as a case of Anemic heart failure. She had her anti failure regimen, blood transfusion and other supplementary medications. As the treatment progressed, she responded well as the presenting symptoms subsided. She was later discharged home to continue her pregnancy and antenatal care. She was very happy for receiving aid from helpster.

A pregnant woman with anaemic heart failure can experience significant improvement in symptoms and outcomes with timely treatment, which may include blood transfusion, medications and addressing underlying conditions. If left untreated, the condition can lead to serious complications, including preterm labor, fetal growth restriction, and maternal mortality. With successful treatment and management, many women can experience a significant improvement in their symptoms and quality of life, although some may require ongoing monitoring and treatment.
