Musa H., 10

Musa is a humble and friendly boy who has not enrolled in any formal education. He always enjoys playing football with his peers and dreams of being the next Ronaldo, as he is his role model. He was well until 2 weeks before the presentation, when he started having severe abdominal pain, vomiting and fever. There is no history of diarrhoea or constipation. No cough, difficult breathing or breathlessness. No injury to the abdomen. No history of passing bloody urine or painful urination. The abdominal pain is reported to increase while walking, with no known relieving factor. The child was diagnosed with ruptured appendix which was an emergency.

Musa was admitted in our facility and managed as a case of ruptured appendix. He had exploratory laparotomy done successfully. His postoperative care was satisfactory. He had proper surgical wound care and appropriate antibiotics with other medications. As the treatment progressed he responded well as he became very stable and presenting symptoms subsided. He was later discharged home on oral medications to complete his recovery and continue chasing his dreams of becoming a footballer. He was very happy for the help he received from helpster.

The patient will benefit from an explorative laparotomy. Importantly, with prompt surgical treatment, most people can fully recover from a ruptured appendix, but delays can lead to life-threatening complications. After treatment, patients typically require several weeks of rest and recovery, with temporary dietary changes and follow-up care. With proper care, most people can return to their normal activities within a few weeks to months after surgery and resume their normal lives.
