About pathology
Supra umbilical hernia is a swelling that can be seen slightly above the umbilicus, or the belly button. It occurs when there is a defect and failure to close a part of the abdominal wall above the umblicus, thus allowing fluid and parts of the intestine to push through the defect. Recurrent obstruction of the hernia can only be corrected via surgery to avert serious complication.

Background
A 1-year-old child from poor home was brought this medical facility. She is cheerful and likes playing with toys and cat at home. She was presented to this facility with the complaints of Supra umbilical bulge which reduces and obstruct intermittently with mild-moderate pain especially when the obstruction sustained for some hours without reducing. The child was evaluated and diagnosed with supra-umbilical hernia.
Medical history
A 1-year-old boy who was diagnosed with umbilical hernia. She was admitted and prepared for surgery. Surgery was done successfully and there were no complications. The child felt much better and was discharged home with the parents. They were happy and grateful to Helpster for the free surgery.
Prognosis
Without intervention, the hernia may continue to grow in size, causing increased discomfort, pain, and a noticeable bulge above the umbilicus. In severe cases, the protruding tissue can become trapped or strangulated, which is a medical emergency. Strangulation occurs when the blood supply to the herniated tissue is compromised, leading to severe pain, nausea, vomiting, and possible tissue damage or necrosis. Prompt surgical repair is typically recommended for supra umbilical hernia to prevent these complications and ensure the safety and well-being of the affected individual.
