Joey is a young child currently being raised in an orphanage. Her mother, who was a Form One student at the time, became pregnant after being sexually assaulted—likely targeted due to her vulnerable economic status. Sadly, she did not receive emergency medical care or access to contraception following the incident, as there was no one to guide or support her. With help from well-wishers, the young mother was able to return to school, and Joey was placed in the orphanage for proper care. Joey remained in good health until about three days ago when she began showing symptoms including a cough, nasal congestion, difficulty breathing, a runny nose, and loss of appetite. The caregiver initially administered Amoxyl and Piriton, but there was no improvement. Joey was then started on appropriate medication and is now under close observation.

Joey was brought to the hospital exhibiting cough, nasal congestion, difficulty in breathing, running nose and refusal to feed. After tests were run she was diagnosed with pneumonia and had to be admitted. She stayed in the ward for a couple of days where she received antibiotics and other medication. She responded well to these medicine and was discharged on orlals. The caretaker in the orphanage reported that Joy was fully recovered as she was joyful, feeding well and playing around.

In most cases, children recover fully from pneumonia, especially with prompt and appropriate treatment. For Joey to fully recover, she will benefit from parenteral antibiotics. Prognosis is good
