An inguinal hernia is a condition in which a portion of the intestine or abdominal tissue protrudes through a weakened or torn area in the lower abdominal wall, typically in the groin area. A person with an inguinal hernia typically experiences a noticeable bulge or lump in the groin area. This bulge can be painful or uncomfortable, especially when lifting, coughing, or straining. Some individuals might also feel aching or burning sensations around the hernia. In certain cases, the hernia can lead to symptoms like groin pain, a feeling of heaviness in the lower abdomen, and discomfort.

Background
Musa a seven-year-old boy from poor home who was the 4th child of family of six. His father is a bricklayer, and his mom makes hat and sale to support the family's financial needs. He is introverted but likes music and watching movies in their neighborhood. He has ambition to become an entrepreneur in the future. He was seemingly doing well until 4 years after birth; he developed a scrotal swelling which was initially small and painless. Few months later, the swelling becomes bigger with intermittent pain, discomfort and feeling of heaviness. He was brought to UMD to benefit from the free treatment. At UMD, he was examined, investigated and diagnosed with Inguinal Hernia. He requires surgery to fix the defect in order to avert potential complications such as Obstructed Hernia.
Medical history
Usman is an seven-year-old boy. He is extroverted, loves to play with friends and dreams of becoming an entrepreneur when he grows up. Usman felt well until two years ago when he developed swelling in his right scrotum and he was brought to the hospital where he was diagnosed with a Hernia, but his guardians had no money for surgery. Currently, the swelling has gotten even worse and is accompanied by pain in the scrotum. He has sought help from Helpster and was booked for surgery.He underwent a surgery and was discharged. The mother is very happy.
Prognosis
If left untreated, inguinal hernias can lead to complications such as bowel obstruction, strangulation (where blood supply to the herniated tissue is cut off), and significant pain or discomfort. Surgery is the most common treatment for inguinal hernias to repair the weakened area and prevent these potential complications.
