Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Edelyqueen is the second-born in a small family of three. She is a Grade 3 pupil in primary school and is a diligent student who often wakes up early to prepare for class. She enjoys reading storybooks and drawing, and while she dreams of becoming a teacher, she also aspires to be a doctor one day. Edelyqueen is a known sickle cell patient. A day prior, she became unwell with a loss of appetite, prompting her family to bring her to the hospital for further care, where she was started on appropriate medication. She currently presents with a productive cough, chest pain, fever, fatigue, and has been unable to attend school for the past two weeks due to her condition.

Medical history

Edelyqueen, who has a known history of sickle cell disease, began feeling unwell the day before with a loss of appetite, prompting her family to seek medical attention. At the hospital, she was started on treatment. She had symptoms including a productive cough, chest pain, fever, and fatigue, and had been unable to attend school for two weeks due to her illness. She was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and moderate anemia, admitted for treatment, and responded well. She has since been discharged, returned to school, and is doing well—without missing any more school days.

Prognosis

Edelyqueen was treated and given all drugs and if the condition could have remained untreated it could have resulted to death
