Noline L., 14

Noline is a 14-year-old girl who lives in a rural village with her mother. Although both of her parents are alive, they work as temporary laborers in another village, so she relies primarily on her grandmother, a dedicated small-scale dairy farmer who earns around KES 2,000 a month. Noline is currently in Grade 8 and aspires to become a teacher. She works hard in school with the hope of supporting her parents in the future. She also enjoys helping her grandmother on the farm. Recently, Noline has been feeling unusually weak and dizzy for over a week. Her school has reported frequent absences this term. During her last clinic visit five months ago, she was diagnosed with anemia, but her family was unable to afford the recommended treatment. Her health has generally been poor, but her condition has worsened significantly in the past week.

Noline was diagnosed with anemia . She was treated with antibiotics, and sickle cell drugs to take while at home and advised to attend clinics monthly. She is now back to his usual activities: she goes to school in the morning, and spends most of his time at school. Now her family are cheerful when they see their daughter happy.

Noline was treated and if the condition could have not been treated on time it could have resulted to organ damage and infection.
