Sickle cell anemia is one of a group of inherited disorders known as sickle cell disease. It affects the shape of red blood cells, which carry oxygen to all parts of the body.Red blood cells are usually round and flexible, so they move easily through blood vessels. In sickle cell anemia, some red blood cells are shaped like sickles or crescent moons. These sickle cells also become rigid and sticky, which can slow or block blood flow Malaria can trigger or worsen sickle cell crises, leading to complications like severe anemia, organ damage, and even death. The infection increases red blood cell destruction and can precipitate acute chest syndrome or splenic sequestration. Preventive measures such as insecticide-treated nets, chemoprophylaxis, and prompt treatment are essential to protect sickle cell patients from malaria.

Background
Calistus, a Grade 2 pupil at a rural primary school, lives with his mother and three siblings. His father, the family's main provider, is a farmer who earns about KSh 1,200 per month from selling farm produce. Calistus is passionate about learning and hopes to become a teacher one day. He also enjoys playing football. A day ago, Calistus developed a fever, experienced dizziness, and was restless throughout the day. He is known to be suffering from sickle cell disease. Due to financial constraints, the family was unable to purchase medication. Community health promoters referred them to a nearby health facility, where they were received by the Helpster Charity team. After evaluating the family's situation, the team offered support. Medical examination revealed that Calistus had malaria and was anemic, had a low blood count, and appeared generally unwell.
Medical history
A day ago, Calistus developed a fever, experienced dizziness, and was restless throughout the day. He is known to be suffering from sickle cell disease. Due to financial constraints, the family was unable to purchase medication. Community health promoters referred them to a nearby health facility, where they were received by the Helpster Charity team. After evaluating the family's situation, the team offered support. Medical examination revealed that Calistus had malaria and was anemic, had a low blood count, and appeared generally unwel .He was treated later discharged when he was stable and were appreciating Helpster Charity Organization for helping their son.
Prognosis
Prognosis is good, especially after giving fluids and anti pain medication to relieve the pain. Calistus was in a crisis and having a lot of pain and he was treated and given drugs and if the condition could have remained untreated it could have resulted to organ damage
