Pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough, is a highly contagious respiratory infection caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis. It's known for causing severe coughing spells, which can sometimes end in a "whooping" sound when the person breathes in. Severe malaria occurs when infections are complicated by serious organ failures or abnormalities in the patient's blood or metabolism. Ibrahim was diagnosed with Pertussis and Malaria. Background
Malam Umar, a renowned Islamic scholar, recently brought to our attention a remarkable 7-year-old student. This young boy has been studying the Quran at Malam Umar's Islamic school for the past two years, where he has developed a passion for reciting the holy Quran. In addition to his love for Quranic recitation, Child is also an avid football player. His parents enrolled him in the Islamic school two years ago, where he has been thriving under Malam Umar's guidance. He was apparently well until one week ago when he developed headache, fever, anorexia, and generalized body pain but despite taking some medications there was no improvement. On presentation, he was evaluated and diagnosed with Pertusis and Severe Malaria.
Medical history
The child was evaluated by the Doctor, and medication was prescribed for his health condition. The patient's condition significantly improved, and he was discharged home. He returned for follow-up care after one week of treatment, and his condition showed further improvement, with noticeable gains in health and appearance.
Prognosis
Malaria should be treated promptly with the use of antimalarial drugs. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and even death. It can result in organ failure, severe anemia, neurological issues, and in some cases, prove fatal, making early diagnosis and treatment crucial for preventing these life-threatening consequences.
