Background
Kevin is the youngest child in a family of five. His father works as a manual laborer, earning less than 100 shillings a day - barely enough to provide the family with one meal daily. Three days ago, Kevin began vomiting. His mother initially bought medication from a local chemist, but his condition worsened. A community health promoter later advised her to take Kevin to the hospital. Upon arrival, he was assessed and diagnosed with sepsis and severe dehydration, prompting the doctor to admit him for further treatment.
Medical history
Three days ago, Kevin started vomiting. His mother initially treated him with medication from a local chemist, but his condition deteriorated. A community health promoter then advised her to take him to the hospital. At the hospital, Kevin was diagnosed with sepsis and severe dehydration, and he was admitted for further treatment. He was put on IV fluids and antibiotics and his condition improved steadily, after which he was discharged from the hospital to continue taking oral medication at home. He is now recovering well, and a follow-up phone call confirmed that he has fully improved.
Prognosis
Prognosis is good. Complications may relate to either the loss of fluid and electrolytes without enough rehydration but for Kevin, this will not occur as he was rehydrated well
