Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Bokoli Subcounty Hospital

Bokoli Sub-County Hospital, Sikata - Kimilili Rd, Bokoli

Background

Blessing is a 10-month-old baby girl born to a family facing significant financial challenges. Her mother, previously a casual worker at the nearby health center, lost her job following a recent staff restructuring. Her father earns a modest living as a motorcycle taxi driver. The family lives in a small two-room house with a leaking roof, relies on a pit latrine for sanitation, and fetches drinking water from a nearby stream-about a 30-minute walk away. Two days ago, Blessing began vomiting and developed a high fever. Due to limited financial means, her parents administered only painkillers at home, unaware of the underlying illness. Her mother got concerned when she started vomiting everything after feeding, and at one point refused to feed. As her condition worsened-with persistent coughing, fever, and loss of appetite-they rushed her to Bokoli Sub-County Hospital for urgent medical care.

Medical history

Blessing was brought to the hospital with complaints of cough, fever and vomiting. The child was treated and discharged. Mother is forever grateful to Helpster Charity and the people who had helped her through the app; she went back home and told all her neighbours how Helpster Chairty had assisted her in paying for the treatment of her child.

Prognosis

The patient was presented to Bokoli Subcounty Hospital with a cough, diarrhoea, hotness of body and poor appetite, and diagnosed with severe malaria and upper respiratory tract infection. If not treated, it can lead to lung damage, dehydration, and kidney failure.
