Mercy N., 13

Mercy comes from a single family where she stays with her mother, living in a rural settlement. They live in a very deplorable mad walled house. They depend on casual jobs that earns them very little money that only makes them afford a single meal in a day. Mercy was defiled by a person unknown to her when she was going home from school. She was referred to bungoma county referral hospital from one of the subcounty hospitals where she had been taken with PV bleeding following a history of sexual assault by an unknown person on her way home from school. The assailant took took her into a coffee plantation. the good samaritan who found her reports finding her lying in a pool of heavy fresh blood and she was unable to walk. The good smaritan later who assisted her to reach home and she was brought to the hospital by the mother. She had a second degree tear, a tear that extends through the vaginal tissue and the perineal muscles (the muscles between the vagina and the anus)

Mercy was sexually assaulted by an unknown individual while walking home from school. She was initially taken to a sub-county hospital with per vaginal (PV) bleeding and later referred to Bungoma County Referral Hospital for specialized care. According to a Good Samaritan who found her lying in a pool of fresh blood in a coffee plantation, she was unable to walk due to her injuries. The Good Samaritan helped her get home, after which her mother brought her to the hospital. Upon examination, Mercy was found to have sustained a second-degree tear—an injury involving both the vaginal tissue and the perineal muscles (the area between the vagina and anus). The tear was surgically repaired, and she was administered PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis), a treatment given to prevent HIV infection after potential exposure, as well as an emergency contraceptive pill. A gynecologist later reviewed her and confirmed that the wound was healing well. Mercy is currently attending psychotherapy sessions to support her emotional and psychological recovery from the traumatic experience.

The patient was treated with antibiotics. she was done several laboratory works including the VDRL test. she was counselled to manage the trauma. she repsonded well and was discharged in sbale condition.
