Ruma Akter, a 2-month-old premature baby, has been diagnosed with severe Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, requiring urgent Anti-VEGF (Avastin) injections to prevent permanent blindness. Her father, Monir Ahmed, is a day labourer earning only 7000 Taka per month, supporting a family of five, including Ruma’s two school-aged sisters. The family lives in extreme financial hardship and cannot afford the cost of this critical treatment. Ruma is a fragile, quiet infant who has already faced health challenges due to her premature birth. Without immediate medical intervention, she is at high risk of irreversible retinal damage and lifelong visual impairment or blindness.

She was treated with Anti-VEGF injections by Dr. Md Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The treatment was successfully administered, bringing the abnormal blood vessel growth under control and improving her retinal condition. With ongoing follow-up, there is strong hope that Ruma will be able to see clearly.
