Habiba is a 1-month-old girl who is very worried because she cannot sleep or eat well, and she often has water discharge from her eyes. Her family, with a monthly income of only 7000 Taka that is irregular, struggles to make ends meet. Her father, Hanif Ali, works as a day laborer, and her mother, Lucky Akhter, is a housewife, while her brother Junayed Hossain is only 8 years old and still studying. The family cannot afford the expensive anti-VEGF injection that Habiba needs to treat her Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), a serious eye condition that can cause blindness if not treated promptly; without it, she risks losing her eyesight forever. Her parents are very anxious because they love their baby and fear that if she doesn’t get proper treatment soon, she may go completely blind.

Habiba Akter, a 1-month-old infant, required urgent treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes to prevent permanent vision loss. She was treated with Anti-VEGF injections by Dr. Md Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist of the Hospital. The treatment was carried out successfully, and the abnormal blood vessel growth is now under control with significant improvement in her retinal condition. With regular follow-up, there is strong hope that Habiba will develop clear vision. This classification indicates an advanced stage of ROP with abnormal blood vessel growth and increased vascular activity in the retina. Plus disease signifies a high risk of rapid progression to retinal detachment and potential blindness. To prevent further damage, the treatment plan includes intravitreal Anti-VEGF (Avastin) injections in both eyes, which is the standard and urgent intervention. This treatment works by inhibiting abnormal vessel growth and preserving retinal integrity. Early surgical management in this case is important and clearly indicated to protect visual development and avoid irreversible vision loss.
