Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Blessing is a one-year-old girl and the firstborn in her family. She lives with both her parents. Her father works as a boda boda rider, earning less than KSh 200 a day, most of which goes toward paying rent, leaving very little for food. The family also has to walk about 35 minutes to fetch water from a nearby stream. About a week ago, Blessing began to develop a cough and sneezing. Due to financial difficulties, her parents were unable to take her to the hospital. They used the little money they had to buy over-the-counter medication, but her condition did not improve. On the day she was brought to the hospital, she had developed a fever and was refusing to feed.

Medical history

Without treatment, bronchitis could have led to: • Severe breathing struggle • Low oxygen levels or even respiratory failure • Apnea (pauses in breathing) Thanks to medical care, Blessing recovered completely. Doctors managed her condition, and today, she’s back to her happy, playful self - proof that timely intervention saves lives. Blessing’s story reminds us: every child deserves a fighting chance.

Prognosis

Prognosis is good. Blessing's condition was quickly managed by doctors and she is now ok, if the condition could have been treated it could have resulted to complications;difficulty in breathing, leading to low oxygen levels, pauses in breathing (apnea), and potentially respiratory failure
