Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD) is a condition in which open sores (ulcers) form on the inner lining of the stomach or the upper part of the small intestine (duodenum). These ulcers develop when the protective mucus layer is weakened, allowing stomach acid to damage the tissue. When someone with peptic ulcer disease vomits repeatedly—especially due to pain, nausea, or complications like a gastric outlet obstruction—they can lose a large amount of body fluids and electrolytes. Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture. It is caused by abnormal brain development or damage to the developing brain, usually before birth, during birth, or shortly after.

Background
Duncan Kemboi is an 18-year-old boy living with a disability since birth. Despite his challenges, Duncan has a remarkable spirit and takes pride in helping his mother with household chores, especially washing utensils and doing laundry. He also enjoys playing football with his peers at the deaf and blind school he attends. Currently, Duncan is enrolled in horticulture training, and his deep love for nature shows promise for a future as a dedicated forest caretaker. His passion for maintaining a clean environment has made him a positive and hopeful presence in his community. Duncan has cerebral palsy but has generally remained in good health. Recently, however, he was brought to Tionycare Hospital after experiencing persistent vomiting, epigastric pain, bloating, and a loss of appetite. He had previously received care at Baringo County Referral Hospital, but his condition deteriorated when his father, due to financial constraints, was unable to purchase the prescribed medication.
Medical history
A patient with cerebral palsy presented to the hospital with epigastric pain, vomiting, and reduced appetite. On admission, his blood pressure was very low due to severe dehydration caused by persistent vomiting. He was diagnosed with worsened peptic ulcer disease and severe dehydration. Treatment included administration of omeprazole to manage the ulcers and intravenous fluids to restore hydration. He responded well to treatment and was later discharged. Counseling was provided on factors that can aggravate ulcers. A follow-up phone call confirmed that he is now doing well. The family is thankful to Helpster Charity for their help.
Prognosis
Peptic ulcer disease is treatable. And with a combination of antibiotics, we are optimistic Duncan will get well. A times if the condition is not treated well and on time sometimes it may lead to cancer of the stomach. With proper care and treatment at Tionycare Hospital, there is hope that Duncan will recover and resume his everyday activities with renewed strength.
