About 1. low birth weight (lbw):
Low birth weight refers to a baby born weighing less than 2,500 grams (5.5 pounds), regardless of gestational age. It can result from premature birth (before 37 weeks of pregnancy) or restricted fetal growth (intrauterine growth restriction). LBW increases the risk of infections, developmental delays, and long-term health issues. 2. Birth Asphyxia: Birth asphyxia occurs when a newborn does not receive enough oxygen before, during, or immediately after birth. It can lead to breathing difficulties, organ damage, or brain injury, and in severe cases, may cause permanent disability or death. Prompt medical intervention is critical. 3. Neonatal Sepsis: Neonatal sepsis is a serious bloodstream infection that occurs in newborns, typically within the first month of life. It can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi and may present with symptoms such as fever, poor feeding, lethargy, or respiratory distress. Sepsis requires urgent antibiotic treatment to prevent severe complications or death.

Background
Baby Benzia is the firstborn child and lives with her mother, who is currently a student at a technical institution. She was delivered at a health facility with a low birth weight of 1800 grams and experienced birth asphyxia. At birth, she also had difficulty breathing and was unable to feed. Her condition prompted the health care personnel to admit and manage her in the Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) unit. Apart from the low birth weight, Baby Benzia also had neonatal sepsis and asphyxia
Medical history
The baby was born weighing just 1,800 grams (3.9 lbs), falling under the category of low birth weight (LBW). This condition can stem from prematurity or restricted growth in the womb and raises risks like infections, developmental delays, and future health concerns. Shortly after birth, the baby developed neonatal sepsis, a life-threatening bloodstream infection. Without swift treatment, it could have led to severe complications like respiratory distress, feeding problems, and long-term risks such as heart disease or diabetes. Thankfully, timely medical care saved the day. The sepsis was managed with antibiotics, and the LBW was closely monitored.
Prognosis
If the condition of the baby low birth weight of 1800gs and the neonatal sepsis was not managed,these could have been lead to respiratory distress, feeding difficulties, infections, and increased risk of long-term health issues like heart disease and diabetes.
