Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About eyes

ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity) is a potentially blinding eye disorder that affects premature infants, where abnormal blood vessels grow in the retina. If not detected and treated early, the worst consequences can include retinal detachment, leading to permanent vision loss or blindness.

Background

Mohammad Hossain is a one-month-old twin baby born prematurely at 34 weeks, weighing just 2000 grams, and spent his first 7 days in the NICU battling jaundice and breathing difficulties. He has now been diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes and urgently needs Anti-VEGF injections to save his vision. His father works as a low-paid construction laborer in a rural village in Chandraganj, Lakshmipur, barely able to support their six-member family, making the cost of treatment impossible for them to bear. Though just a month old, Hossain is a quiet, resilient little fighter with a chance at a healthy life. Without this treatment, he is at high risk of permanent blindness—something that no child should face due to poverty.

Medical history

Mohammad Hossain, a 1-month-old baby, required urgent treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes to prevent the risk of lifelong blindness. He was treated with Anti-VEGF injections by Dr. Md Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist of the Hospital. The procedure was successful, with the abnormal blood vessel growth brought under control and the retinal condition showing marked improvement. With continued follow-up, there is strong hope that he will develop clear vision. Heartfelt thanks to Helpster Charity and the Helpster Heroes for their vital support in restoring his eyesight.

Prognosis

Mohammad Hossain has been diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes—a serious but treatable condition if addressed urgently. The good news is that with timely intravitreal injections, there is a high chance of saving his vision and preventing lifelong blindness. However, any delay could cause irreversible damage to his developing eyes. The doctors strongly advise immediate intervention within the next few days to protect his sight. With proper treatment now, Hossain has a real chance to grow up seeing his parents’ faces, the beauty of his village, and the bright future that lies ahead.
