A febrile convulsion is a fit or seizure that occurs in children aged between 6 months and 6 years when they have a high fever. Septicemia is an infection that occurs when bacteria enter the bloodstream and spread. It can lead to sepsis, the body’s reaction to the infection, which can cause organ damage and even death. Septicemia is more common in people who are hospitalized or have other medical conditions. It requires immediate medical attention and antibiotic treatment Severe malaria typically occurs due to delayed treatment of uncomplicated malaria. This stage of the disease is defined by clinical or laboratory evidence of vital organ dysfunction. Nearly all deaths from severe malaria result from infections with P. falciparum, although P. vivax and P. knowlesi can also cause severe disease

Background
Adrian is a 1-year-old boy and the only child of a teenage single mother who was orphaned at a young age. They live together in a small, semi-permanent one-room house. Adrian’s father abandoned them during the pregnancy, leaving the mother to fend for them through casual jobs like doing laundry or herding livestock. On the day of the incident, Adrian’s mother had found temporary work at a nearby hotel. Since Adrian is not yet in school, she took him along. That morning, Adrian had complained of a headache, and his mother planned to give him paracetamol once they returned home. However, by evening, she noticed his body was extremely hot. As they reached their house and she searched for the keys, Adrian suddenly collapsed and began convulsing. In a panic, she picked him up and rushed toward the main road, where a good Samaritan offered to help and rushed them to the hospital, where Adrian was admitted through the emergency department.
Medical history
Adrian came to the hospital with complaints of headache and convulsions. Lab tests done revealed he was suffering from severe malaria and septicemia. He was admitted to the wards, where he received IV artesunate and broad-spectrum antibiotics. He responded well to treatment and was duly discharged. A call to his mother revealed that Adrian was okay and was able to play around with his toys.
Prognosis
Septicemia, a blood infection, has a significant prognosis depending on the severity and speed of treatment. Early, effective treatment is crucial for survival, as sepsis and septic shock, which can develop from septicemia, have high mortality rates. While most people recover from sepsis with treatment, septic shock can be fatal in 30-40% of cases. Severe malaria has a potentially fatal prognosis, with mortality rates ranging from 15-20% even with treatment. Prompt treatment with intravenous artesunate is crucial for survival. Complications like cerebral malaria, organ dysfunction, and severe anemia can significantly worsen the prognosis. The patient was quickly managed at the emergency department and was stabilised before being admitted for further management
