Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

A 1 year old child of a peasant farmer, with poor family background was healthy until 2 days ago when he poured a hot water over his left leg when he was playing. Thus resulted to burns of the leg, pain and swelling. The child always moves around and likes playing with toy. He was apparently well until 2 days ago while he was playing, He had a domestic accident. He poured a hot water over his left leg hence sustained burns, pain and swelling. They remained at home despite the burns and applied traditional medicine which makes the burns septic. Currently, the wound site is discharging pus. On presentation at our hospital, he was evaluated and diagnosed with Septic Burns wound and requires urgent treatment.

Medical history

Haruna suffered septic burns on his left leg, just below the knee. He was admitted for treatment on june 25 and discharged on june 13, 2025. Fortunately, he is now doing well, with all burns from the hot water fully healed. Mustapha can now freely play with his toys and interact with other children.

Prognosis

Septic burn can be treated via debridement, daily wound dressing with antibiotics, analgesics and vitamins. However,if left untreated, septic burn could lead to destruction of tissues, anaemia, gangrene and virtually amputation of the affected leg.
