Background
A 6-year-old child from poor home and an internally displaced persons living in bulunkutu ajilari ciki,Maiduguri. She is cheerful and likes playing with friends. In the future she has a dream to become a teacher. Zainab a seven(6) year old girl was apparently well, about two (2) months ago she started feeling flank and lower abdominal pain, dysuria and fever but symptoms subsided after taking antibiotics and pain relief. Early this morning, she was brought to UMD Medical Clinic with the complaints of inability to pass urine. The Doctor examined and diagnosed her with Acute urine retention secondary to Bladder stone at the bladder neck. She requires urgent surgery to avert further complications.
Medical history
Zainab is a six-year-old cheerful girl from a financially disadvantaged background, as her family is internally displaced. Despite her circumstances, she enjoys playing with friends and aspires to become a teacher in the future. Until about 2 months ago, Zainab was in good health. However, she began experiencing flank and lower abdominal pains, painful urination (dysuria), and fever. While some symptoms improved after taking antibiotics and pain relievers, she recently developed urinary retention and was brought to UMD Clinic this morning. Upon examination, the doctor diagnosed her with bladder stones. Urgent surgery is needed to prevent further complications and address her condition. She underwent surgery on 26th july,2025 and was discharged on 31th july, 2025. She feels better and her life has improved.
Prognosis
Treatment of larger bladder stones may require procedures such as lithotripsy (breaking the stones into smaller pieces using sound waves) or surgical removal. Additionally, measures to prevent the recurrence of bladder stones may include dietary changes, increased fluid intake, and addressing underlying conditions that contribute to stone formation.
