Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. It is preventable and curable. Severe malaria typically occurs due to delayed treatment of uncomplicated malaria. This stage of the disease is defined by the evidence of vital organ dysfunction.
