When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Cerebral Malaria is one of the presentations of a complicated/severe malaria. It presents with symptoms of the nervous system in addition to the normal symptoms of malaria. It occurs when simple malaria is left untreated or inappropriately treated. It usually affects but not limited to children, pregnant women sickle cell Diseased and people from non-tropical areas.

Background
Ummi is an 8-year-old calm girl whose hobby has been going to school. When asked, her dream is to become a teacher. Ummi presented with a 2-day history of high-grade fever, altered level of consciousness and multiple convulsions. Her parents reported a history of recent travel to a malaria-endemic area. On presentation at the hospital, the child was evaluated and diagnosed with Cerebral Malaria with Convulsions.
Medical history
Ummi was admitted in our facility and managed as a case of Cerebral malaria with multiple convulsions. She had her complete dosages of parenteral antimalarials, anticonvulsants and other supportive medications. She was also rehydrated with IV fluids. As the treatment progressed, she responded well as evidenced by resolving of admitting symptoms. She was later discharged home with oral medications following improvement to complete her recovery at home.
Prognosis
Cerebral Malaria is a life threatening condition when not promptly and appropriately attended to. However with prompt treatment using Injectable and oral antimalarials, coupled with other supplementary drugs patients respond and fully recover from the condition.
