Abdullahi M., 5

Abdullahi is 5-year-old active child who lives with his 3 siblings, parents and grandparents in bad conditions. Family is barely making a living. He likes playing at home and likes going to school every day. Abdullahi presented with a 2-weeks history of generalized body swelling which started around the eyes and weight gain. On presentation at our facility, Abdullahi was evaluated and diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome. They couldn't afford treatment but got to know about Helpster from the hospital workers and was admitted.

Abdullahi is a known patient of our facility who was admitted and managed as a case of Nephrotic syndrome. He had his steroids and diuretics therapy together with other supportive management protocols. He responded well to the treatment as the edema subsided, urine output returned to normal with laboratory results improved. He was later discharged home with oral medications following the improvement of his condition to continue with his follow-up.

Nephrotic syndrome is treatable with steroids and other drugs depending on the primary cause of the condition. When treated appropriately, patients respond well to treatment with most of them achieving full recovery. However, when left untreated it can lead to permanent damage to the kidneys.
