Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Christine is a housewife who lives with her husband, a boda boda rider who earns a modest income that helps them get by. They reside in a small two-room mud house. Christine fetches water from a stream located about 30 minutes away on foot, and they share a pit latrine with neighbors. Their home is situated along a pathway frequently used by pedestrians. Christine arrived at the health facility complaining of per vaginal (PV) bleeding and back pain. Upon assessment, she was found to be 26 weeks pregnant. She went into preterm labor and delivered a baby with a low birth weight of 1000 grams. Christine was admitted for care, but sadly, the baby passed away shortly after birth.

Medical history

Christine presented to the health facility with complaints of per vaginal (PV) bleeding and back pain. On assessment, she was found to be 26 weeks pregnant. She subsequently went into preterm labor and delivered a baby weighing only 1000 grams, classified as extremely low birth weight. Christine was admitted for postnatal care and received appropriate treatment, from which she recovered well. Unfortunately, due to the baby’s extreme prematurity and underdevelopment, the newborn passed away shortly after birth.

Prognosis

Pretearm labour and birth is not normal and easily leads to infants death therefore prognosis is not good.
