When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About infections
Malaria, Enteric fever, PUD, STI and UTI. Malaria and enteric fever are systemic infections presenting with high-grade fever, malaise, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Peptic ulcer disease (PUD) causes epigastric discomfort, especially postprandial, due to mucosal erosion. Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can lead to vaginal discharge, discomfort, and other genitourinary symptoms, while urinary tract infections (UTIs) present with dysuria, frequency, and lower abdominal discomfort. Conjunctivitis is an ocular surface infection presenting with redness, irritation, and discharge.

Background
Amina is a 20 year old girl living with her parents in the Gwange area of Maiduguri. She earns a living by knitting traditional Hausa caps, using her skills to support her family. Though she is unable to attend school, Amina is hardworking and dedicated, doing all she can to help her parents and contribute to their well‑being. Amina began feeling very unwell when she was struck by repeated bouts of high fever, chills, and stomach discomfort. At the same time, she suffered from burning stomach pain and frequent discomfort after meals. Not long after, she noticed unusual discomfort and discharge, along with pain when passing urine. Her eyes became red, teary, and irritated, making it difficult for her to work or carry out her daily routine. These pains left Amina exhausted and unable to continue supporting her family as she used to. On presentation at our facility, she was evaluated and diagnosed with Malaria, Enteric fever, PUD, STI and UTI.
Medical history
Amin Goni was referred to Nakowa with complaints of fever, stomach pain, painful urination, and general weakness. After thorough evaluation and laboratory investigations including MP, PCV, urinalysis, and urine MCS, she was diagnosed with malaria, enteric fever, peptic ulcer disease, a urinary tract infection, and an STI. She was started on a comprehensive treatment plan with Amatem Forte 80/480mg bd for 3 days, Paracetamol 1g tds for 3 days, Ciprofloxacin bd for 5 days, Gestid suspension 15ml tds for 7 days, and Gentamycin eye drops tds, along with supportive care. With this treatment, her fever gradually subsided, her abdominal pain eased, and the burning discomfort during urination cleared. She became stronger each day, her appetite improved, and her energy returned. On follow-up, Amin was cheerful, feeling fully recovered and able to resume her normal activities. Prognosis
With early and appropriate medical treatment, these conditions malaria, enteric fever, peptic ulcer disease, sexually transmitted infections, urinary tract infections, and conjunctivitis generally have a favorable prognosis. Most patients recover fully with targeted therapy and supportive care. However, delayed or inadequate treatment can lead to complications, making timely medical attention essential for a complete recovery.
