Fetal distress is a condition where the baby experiences insufficient oxygen before or during birth, indicated by abnormal heart patterns. If untreated, it can lead to severe complications such as brain damage (hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy) or even fetal death. Uterine rupture is a serious obstetric emergency where the muscular wall of the uterus tears during pregnancy or labor. This can lead to severe maternal hemorrhage, fetal distress, and even maternal and fetal death if not managed immediately.

Background
Morjina Begum is a strong and caring mother of three, patiently waiting to welcome her fourth child at full term. Her husband, Moynul Hossain, works day and night as a rickshaw puller, earning just 8,000 taka a month to support their family of five, including three daughters who rely on their parents’ hard work for their education and wellbeing. Having had a cesarean section in her last delivery, Morjina now urgently needs another C-section to ensure the safety of both herself and her baby. Without this critical surgery, she faces life-threatening risks such as uterine rupture, severe bleeding, and fetal distress. Despite her courage and resilience, the family’s limited income leaves them unable to afford the surgery, putting both mother and child in grave danger unless they receive immediate support.
Medical history
Morjina Begum was admitted on 16.06.2025 with fetal distress and received timely treatment and care at Jamuna Clinic, with support from Helpster and its dedicated volunteers. She was discharged on 20.06.2025 in good health, along with her newborn. Her husband personally came to receive them from the hospital and expressed heartfelt gratitude for the medical care and financial assistance provided. The family especially thanked Helpster, Jamuna Clinic, Abdullah, and Amulla for their unwavering support. They conveyed deep appreciation to all involved for ensuring the safe recovery of both mother and child.
Prognosis
Morjina Begum, a 34-year-old G4P3 at 36 weeks gestation with a history of previous lower segment cesarean section (LSCS), requires an urgent repeat cesarean delivery. Delay in intervention significantly increases the risk of uterine rupture, fetal hypoxia, and intrauterine fetal demise. Immediate surgical management is essential to prevent maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality.
