Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About eyes

ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity) is a potentially blinding eye disorder that affects premature infants, where abnormal blood vessels grow in the retina. If not detected and treated early, the worst consequences can include retinal detachment, leading to permanent vision loss or blindness.

Background

Abdur Raian is a tiny, fragile baby boy born prematurely, weighing just 1.8 kg, and already facing a serious threat to his vision due to Retinopathy of Prematurity. His family, living in a modest home in Rasulganj, struggles daily with poverty—his mother, a devoted housewife, and his father, who is stuck in the UAE without stable work, can barely afford their basic needs with the limited BDT 10,000 he manages to send. Without the urgent treatment of Anti-VEGF injections, Abdur Raian risks losing his sight forever, which would mean a lifetime of darkness and missed childhood moments. His sister dreams of playing with him someday, but without help, her hopes may never come true. His family’s only wish is for support so their little boy can see the world clearly and grow up with a bright future.

Medical history

Abdur Raian, a 1-month-old infant, was diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes — a delicate eye condition that can threaten a baby’s vision if left untreated. Under the expert supervision of Dr. Md Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist of the Hospital, he was treated with Anti-VEGF injections to control the abnormal blood vessel growth. The procedure went smoothly, and his retinal condition has shown remarkable improvement. The blood vessel growth is now stable, and doctors are optimistic that Raian will develop healthy vision as he grows. Heartfelt appreciation to Helpster Charity and the Helpster Heroes for their life-changing support in helping him regain his vision.

Prognosis

Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital in Chandpur, have assessed Abdur Raian’s case and strongly recommended urgent intervention. They have advised that immediate administration of Anti-VEGF injections in both eyes can effectively stop the abnormal vessel growth and prevent further damage. With timely treatment and routine follow-up, Abdur Raian has a high chance of developing healthy vision and growing up to lead a normal life. However, if left untreated, the damage will be permanent and life-altering, affecting not just his vision but also his cognitive, social, and emotional development. We sincerely request Helpster Charity to consider this appeal and support baby Abdur Raian’s eye treatment. Your kind contribution can save him from a lifetime of darkness and open the door to a world of opportunity and joy.
