Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About infections

A skin abscess, also known as a cutaneous abscess, is a localized collection of pus that forms within the skin and underlying tissue. It typically occurs as a result of an infection, often caused by bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus. Skin abscesses are characterized by a painful, swollen, and red lump on or beneath the skin's surface.

Background

Zakari is a cheerful 1-year-old kid who was perfectly fine until three days ago. That's when he began to experience swelling in his left arm, along with a fever, pain, and restlessness.

Medical history

Zakari was diagnosed with left arm abscess secondary to cellulitis, and was admitted for surgery on 05th August, 2023. Surgery (I&D) was conducted successfully, patient had the post-operation treatment and was discharged home on 08th August, 2023.

Prognosis

The abscess may reform if not properly drained and treated, as the infection can persist. To treat the abscess, a small incision in the abscess needs to be made to allow the pus to drain out. This is usually done after the area is numbed with a local anesthetic to minimize pain. In some cases, especially if the abscess is large, deep, or associated with a systemic infection, antibiotics may be prescribed to help clear the infection.
