About skin rashes, cough, malaria and enteric fever
Skin rash denotes a dermatological presentation that may range from mild erythema to more extensive exanthema, often associated with pruritus or irritability. Cough is a clinical sign indicative of airway or respiratory tract irritation, potentially progressing to respiratory distress if the underlying pathology is significant. Malaria is a protozoal infection caused by Plasmodium species, presenting with intermittent fevers, rigors, malaise, and risk of complications such as hemolytic anemia and end‑organ damage. Enteric fever (typhoid) is a systemic infection due to Salmonella Typhi or Paratyphi, presenting with sustained high‑grade fever, abdominal discomfort, relative bradycardia, and constitutional signs, potentially progressing to serious complications if left untreated.

Background
Zara Haruna is a beautiful 2 month old baby girl and the third child of her parents. Since her arrival, she has brought immense joy, warmth, and happiness to the family. Her sweet smile and gentle presence have captured the hearts of everyone around her, making their home brighter and more hopeful each day. Zara started showing signs of discomfort 3 days ago. At first, her parents noticed tiny rashes appearing on her skin, making her fussy and irritable. Soon after, she developed a cough and began breathing with difficulty. As days passed, she became warmer with fever, refused feeding, and grew weaker. Worried about her condition, her parents took her the chemist but the drugs given to her failed to make her any better. On presentation at our hospital, Zara was evaluated and diagnosed with Skin Infection, Upper Respiratory Tract Infection, Malaria and Enteric Fever
Medical history
Zara responded well to the comprehensive treatment she received, including antimalarial and antibiotic therapies, as well as supportive care for her symptoms. Gradually, her fever subsided, her cough improved, and the skin rashes healed. With careful medical supervision, she regained her strength and returned to her normal, happy self. Prognosis
With early and appropriate medical intervention, the prognosis for a patient presenting with this clinical picture is generally favorable. Timely initiation of antimalarial therapy, targeted antibacterial treatment, and supportive care significantly reduces the risk of complications. However, delayed or inadequate treatment may predispose the patient to serious outcomes, including dehydration, respiratory distress, hematological derangements, or systemic complications, underscoring the importance of prompt diagnosis and close clinical monitoring.
